I can’t believe it’s happened. This is literally the craziest thing I’ve ever experienced. So I completely get that this has to happen, but I honestly didn’t think that it would play out like this.
As we saw all of these other countries slowly close up and shut down operations, it felt like something so alien that it couldn’t possibly ever happen in the UK – but it has. We’re being asked to stay in our homes and just deal with this situation by stopping interaction with people outside of our households.
We’re on lockdown.
We’re just doing it. We’re not taking any chances and we don’t really need to leave for any particular reason. We’re great at bulk buying already and we are in a great routine when it comes to restocking things from one of our favourite supermarkets (via their online site of course).
The hardest part of this whole thing is that my in-laws are still obviously living with us. One of them was working but isn’t right now because of the situation. The fact that we actually can’t go anywhere means that we’ve spent so much more time just in the garden, finding any excuse to entertain the kids with the most random things we can find.
It’s actually inspired me to want to care for the garden just a little more. Before I literally didn’t care at all, because I didn’t know what I was doing, but lately I’ve been cutting down excess, weeding and planting seeds.
Although they said that this would be a three week thing, we actually have no idea how long we’re going to have to stay in our homes, so we may as well try to make the most of the situation and improve our living conditions as best we can.
This situation is going to be very difficult for a lot of people and we just have to be thankful that we aren’t really affected by it too much, because our work is primarily online. We just have to see this thing through.
The kids are coping with it pretty well and to be honest with you, they haven’t noticed anything is different at all. They obviously haven’t been out at all, but we’ve been able to convince them that nothing really changes for them at all. We’re still with them all of the time, we get to do fun things, we’ve got even more fun things in the garden for them and we’re going to enjoy it.
