So I made a massive mistake at Christmas. My wife is great because she will literally get me anything that I ask for when it comes to birthdays and Christmas. The rule is basically that so long as neither of us take the mick, we’ll get one another whatever we really want. I only asked for one thing – literally just one thing – however, it wasn’t until Christmas Day that I realised just how wrong I got it.
I mentioned before how I really want to start getting into the gym and working out and stuff. It’s just about time that I do it and I feel like I’m a race to get into the best shape I can by the time that this pandemic is over and we can go back to normal life.
In the lead-up to Christmas I was brainstorming different equipment that would really like and decided that a tricep bar would be a perfect compliment to what I already have. I’ve already got loads of weights and standard bars, so a specialist one would be really nice to have.
I gave her the link to the one I wanted. She bought it (complaining that they added VAT after she added it to her basket) and that was that. Once Christmas came around and I opened it, I realised that although it was a tricep bars, it’s actually an Olympic bar – meaning it’s much thicker that all of the other ones I have. The problem? None of my weights will fit on it. I’ve got a bar that I can’t use.
I then checked to see how much it costs to get Olympic weights and we are talking literally hundreds. I spent the last two weeks fighting with myself on what to do – whether I bite the bullet and buy more weights or if I admit what happened to my wife.
I decided that I’m going to take option C – not tell her anything (because she won’t know) and not spend any extra money on weights, because I really can’t afford it now. But I really wish I could use this amazing bar I’ve now got in my house.
